St. James Native Pond Plant Sale
The 2020 sale was another huge success. 88 orders for nearly 1900 plants yielded a 68% increase from 2019. Planning has already begun for 2021.
St. James, North Carolina, is blessed with over 200 ponds, about 70% managed by our Property Owners' Association (POA) and the others by Troon Management, the owner of St James' 81 holes of golf. Many of the golf course ponds are also bordered by homes and those shorelines can be pondscaped by homeowners.
Proper vegetation on pond edges not only adds natural beauty; it reduces erosion and improves water quality, thus supporting our entire wildlife ecosystem of fish, turtles, birds, butterflies—and other interesting critters.
The POA's St James Ponds Committee holds an annual sale of plants it recommends for this area.
